There aren’t that many Japanese super-cars out there but one of them is the legendary NSX which has been discontinued more than 10 years ago. Lucky for us is that Acura in cooperation with Honda manged to released just a few weeks ago the 2016 Acura NSX which is the direct successor to the original model. However, unlike the original, this new car belongs in a completely different league, offering the same amount of performance as the fastest cars out there.
2016 Acura NSX Review
Just like the previous model, the new NSX is a car built mostly out of Aluminum which may seem like an odd choice considering most of its competitors are using carbon fiber. Acura said that they went for aluminum because it is cheaper as well as easier to work on.
However, when you take into account the fact that the car costs most than $150,000 then it really doesn’t make much sense, especially when its main competitor, the GT from Ford is made only from carbon fiber.
Luckily though, even though the car is made out of aluminum, it doesn’t mean it isn’t fast or fuel efficient. In fact, the new NSX is a hybrid which uses new technology in order to be as fast as possible. The car uses a 3.7 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which develops around 500 horsepower coupled to three electric motors that further boost the car’s total power to well over 600 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque.
The power from the petrol engine is sent to the rear wheels via a 9 speed dual-clutch automatic while the front has two electric motors, so the car is technically an all wheel drive model.
The performance hasn’t been disclosed just yet but it is safe to assume that a top speed of over 200 MPH will be possible thanks to the great amount of power while the 60 MPH mark will be easily achieved under 3.5 seconds thanks to the all wheel drive system.
On the interior the car isn’t as impressive as most people think and even though it is an Acura, the interior looks minimalistic at best. There is a 5 inch screen where the instrument cluster would be while most of the controls for the car are on an 8 inch touch-screen on the center console. The leather upholstery is standard and the only real option are the different inserts for the interior.
The outside of the 2016 Acura NSX on the other hand is vastly different than anything else Acura built so far. The car looks sleek and the aggressive front end is easily toned down by the curves of the body and the really simple rear end with its massive center exhaust system.
